Bonhoeffer Quote I like…

Silence in the face of evil is itself evil: God will not hold us guiltless. Not to speak is to speak. Not to act is to act. – Dietrich Bonhoeffer

  • Ever since I first read Bonhoeffer’s Cost of Discipleship thirty years ago, I have been appreciative of his insights and his example. Many people believe that we are headed towards, or living in, the end times. Whether we are or not, this time reminds me very much of the 1930’s with tremendous international anxiety about finances, leaders threatening war and an increase in anti-semitism. The 1930’s panicked a lot of people into actions that they later regretted and it was not the church’s finest hour. Yet there were those like Bonhoeffer who wrestled with what it meant to be a believer in the Messiah and to follow even if the end was a martyr’s death. As Bonhoeffer wrote, “When Christ calls a man, he bids him come and die.”

Amen. Great comment. I love Bonhoeffer and his passion. It was proven in the fire.
