The Associated Press reports today that University of Oklahoma sports fan Allen Beckett, a church deacon and bar patron, nearly castrated University of Texas fan Brian Thomas. Apparently Mr. Thomas was wearing a Texas Longhorns shirt that didn’t agree with Mr. Beckett, so he decided to castrate him on the spot… Evidently it took more than 60 stitches to close the wound to Mr. Thomas’ groin. Way to go TEAM!
I’ve actually heard callers on talk radio say that this guy deserved what he got for wearing a Texas T-shirt into a bar in the middle of Sooner country,” said Irven Box, an attorney in this city 20 miles from OU’s campus in Norman.
Excuse me. There are actually people living in Oklahoma who think “this guy deserved what he got”? So now it is a crime, punishable by castration, to wear a shirt with a sports team logo that is considered offensive?
This is outright insanity, not unlike the sort of stampeding of Muslims at the Hajj that leaves many dead in its wake, or the sort of murderous frenzies we sometimes read about at soccer matches around the world.
I have a message to all the Mr. Becketts out there, who regularly clog our city streets like arterial plaque during their idolatrous pilgrimages to the temples of their sports heroes. If your empty and pathetic lives cause you to so identify with the respective fortunes of your idols – so much so that you are willing to maim and kill others – maybe you should consider getting some help for your problems… His Name is Jesus, and you can be delivered from your insanity by calling upon Him.
