Obama says peace in the Middle East is “critical for the entire world”

US President Barack Obama said at the beginning of his trilateral meeting with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that the end of the conflict is critical, not just for the region, but for the entire world as well.

Obama added that the Palestinians need to do more to promote negotiations with the Israelis. He also said that the Israelis have taken significant steps towards starting the process, but must do more to reign in West Bank settlement activity. (Roni Sofer, New York)
